THE BATTLE CRY OF NORTH DAKOTIANS

Back in 2010, my husband and I were living in Alexander, ND. I was known as an oil field widow. Most women were nick-named oil field widows, because our husbands and sons were busy working in the newest oil field explosion.

Since they were never home much, and we were unable to work another job, due to the fact it either didn’t pay enough, or we had children to care for, or we needed to be free when are husband’s were able to have time off. That left us to take care of needs as they arose. We also kept an eye on what was happening politically.

Politics was very important to the bread and butter of our new homes, our security blanket if you will. For most people there it was a new way of life. I met a lady that lived a few blocks away from me, who introduced me to the Williston Chapter of the North Dakota Tea Party.

I had never heard of the Tea Party before, and was interested in finding out more about them, so I joined the group. We did a lot of encouraging things for our people that were representing us in the state Legislation and North Dakota Government in general.

We had the opportunity to gather funds and buy books that helped all the Sheriffs in the state of North Dakota understand the authority that they have over each of their counties. The positive responses were most encouraging.

So I thought maybe you as readers of this community, as people whose decisions affect this great state of North Dakota might be interested in joining me in the adventure of this song BATTLE HYMN OF THE (WILLISTON), NORTH DAKOTA TEA PARTY. How it was born and the journey it has experienced up to this moment in time.

One day I kept hearing thru the radio programs and such that God was looking for more Christian based songs. God was asking for new songs to unite the County and its people again. So I asked Him if He would let me write one. And this song was born, written I believe as a prophecy over our great state of North Dakota.

It was written to the tune of the Battle Hymn of the Republic. I didn’t realize that the Battle Hymn of the Republic had so many verses until I wrote this song.

I sang this song at a park in Williston at our July rally of 2010. My friend played the guitar for me; I still had a decent singing voice back then. Hah! Hah!

From there it has been spoken at many different conventions and most recently at a gathering July 28, 2024 on the state capitol steps. It was spoken by me as a declaration for North Dakota and what is yet to come.

Verse 1
Our eyes have seen the vengeance of those in power come
They have trampled on us people till we said we are done
Those slacking in the state come to be a giant wake
Our rights are marching on.

Chorus:
North Dakota will stand in freedom
North Dakota will stand in freedom
North Dakota will stand in freedom
As God has chosen us.

Verse 2
We have seen the corruption come and stood it alone
We will tolerate no more the Political garbage drum
At the polls we will show them what’s to come
A clean house we will see.

Verse 3
Our government was made for the people to trust
We the people our liberty will not be lost
People like you and me to live free from fear
Our God is marching on.

Verse 4
Our people have heard the call and never shall give up
We will work until the nighttime becomes forever light
Oh, wake the people tell them of the dangers ahead
Let’s show other how to win!

Verse 5
In days gone by we know that one was born in times like these
He is an over comer and he died to set us free
Let’s keep His death a happiness for all the world to see
Let’s march on to victory!

Verse 6
The victory day is coming for all who fight the good fight
With the gift’s of wisdom and the boldness to do right
So the one’s in power now shall wither out of sight
With God we’ll win the fight!

I wrote this on June 28, 2010. It was powerful then and is powerful now. I still have the hope that I feel, when I declare the words from this song. As we enter a new era in our political arena things will change.

Yes, I know we have a ways to go, but as we come together and start lifting our voices louder and louder we will get the attention of our state politicians.
I don’t believe this is going to take another two years. I truly believe that the Lord is going to intervene yet this year, 2025. It will take some hard work and a lot of hard praying, but with God all things are possible.
